About the Study

If you take part in this study, the study doctor will see you monthly over the next 6 months to optimize your treatment, with the goal of reducing your gout attacks. This will help researchers to see how people respond to different doses of the gout medication allopurinol. About The Study Image

About the study drug

Allopurinol is a currently approved and marketed drug for the long-term treatment of gout. Gout is caused by too much uric acid in your blood. Allopurinol works by stopping the body from producing too much uric acid, which eventually helps to reduce how often and how severely you suffer gout attacks. If you take part in this study, you will take a daily dose of allopurinol (at an optimum dose for you).

Because allopurinol may initially cause a gout attack, if you take part in this study you will also need to take daily medication to help prevent a gout attack.
