Potential to lower uric acid and reduce gout attacks

In this study, you will be given study medications (including being reimbursed for allopurinol). The dose of allopurinol may be adjusted (higher or lower) to carefully measure at what level you get the best response in managing your uric acid levels, and how well you tolerate this medicine. The study team will see you monthly to optimize your long-term treatment with the goal of reducing your gout attacks.

You will be in frequent contact with the study team

• Frequent visits to the study doctor's office means that your gout attacks will be closely monitored. Over 6 months, you will be invited to come to the study center monthly. At these visits, qualified study staff will work with you to optimize your long-term gout treatment with the goal of preventing gout attacks.
• Optimizing your ongoing gout treatment requires continuous evaluation of your gout, whether it's currently in hiding or on the attack. Your uric acid level and pain will be carefully measured. These medical assessments help the study doctor to know how well allopurinol is working for you.
• The ability to share your views, progress, and suggestions with the medical team members.
